It’s not a secret that destination weddings in Greece are mega-popular (and for good reason, have you seen some of the locations?).
From Mykonos to Santorini, there is no shortage of places to choose for a Greek island wedding.
But there are still some secret wedding destinations in Greece that make for the most epic celebrations (and photos!). One such place is Milos. And naturally, that’s where our story begins for this particular stunning destination wedding!
While Mykonos and Santorini have their shining moments, there’s nothing quite like finding a hidden spot that is far less frequented. It creates a magic that’s perfect when you’re planning your Greek island wedding.
But the secrecy behind the Greek wedding location isn’t the only magical part about it. It’s a volcanic island in the middle of the Aegean Sea, just north of Crete. And because of its location, it has plenty of gorgeous beaches to choose from, which is one of the reasons why this beautiful couple loved it so much.
Plus the volcanic island creates this otherworldly landscape that, in all my years of traveling as a destination wedding photographer, I have yet to see anything else like it!
If you’re searching through endless lists of wedding destinations in Greece, then let this be your sign that the summer island of Milos should be at the top!
You may have noticed, as you’re planning your wedding, that welcome parties are a newer trend. That’s especially the case for destination weddings! It’s a chance for you to greet your guests who’ve come from all over the world to celebrate you.
And we love this trend. We look forward to photographing welcome parties every time our couples share they’re planning to have one.
It’s an opportunity for everyone to relax, while also celebrating the reason for their travels. Plus, I get to show up with my camera and capture more moments of you, your partner, and your friends and family.
And maybe my favorite part of welcome parties is the fashion!
It may be my favorite part of welcome parties – the fashion! I absolutely adore when my clients pull out all the stops by choosing the best possible outfit for the first celebration of their wedding weekend.
And these two did exactly that! The gorgeous bride-to-be wore an equally stunning two-piece dress in a color palette reminiscent of Milos itself. The groom-to-be opted for a laid-back outfit of a white button-up, casually left untucked, and chinos.
While the bride chose a dress in colors that represented Milos, the groom selected an outfit that reflected Milos’s laid-back, summer vibe.
They weren’t the only ones who showed up as if they stepped out of a fashion magazine! Their guests looked just as chic in brightly colored cocktail dresses. So, of course, I couldn’t help but compose photo after photo of everyone together.
One of my other favorite parts of hosting welcome parties is the fact that I can usually sneak the couple away for a mini portrait session.
It’s a chance for us to explore a little bit more of the location together. And it’s an opportunity for the couple to get even more photos in outfits other than their wedding day attire!
These kinds of photos are just as magical as their wedding day photos, and they look just as good framed on a wall as wedding portraits do!
There’s (obviously) no rule book for hosting a wedding in Milos, Greece. But I always love when my couples are inspired by their chosen location and incorporate elements of it into their wedding day.
For this Milos wedding, a big central theme was the summer, laid-back yet luxurious vibe that the island creates. They wove that very detail into every aspect of their day, from the outfits they wore to the wedding venue they chose, down to their reception afterward.
Like I mentioned earlier, the island of Milos should be at the top of your list of wedding destinations in Greece if you’re considering a celebration here.
And the couple portraits I captured easily show why!
The volcanic landscape created an epic backdrop for their photos. The white sandstone contrasted with the rich, turquoise blue of the water helped me compose photography gold for this couple.
Considering the amazing dress the bride wore to her welcome party, I just knew the dress she’d have chosen for the wedding day would be just as perfect.
And that it was! With many details of the Milos, Greece wedding tailored after the laid-back vibe of the island, the bride’s Vera Wang bridal gown brought that element of luxury to the wedding’s aesthetic.
It was a sleek, radiant gown that made a statement in its simplicity. The fabric reminded me so much of the way the sun shines across the Aegean Sea in Milos. And the simple details of it tied both luxury and relaxation together.
Just as the couple was inspired by the attitude on the island, they also were inspired by traditional Greek wedding ceremonies. So they opted for a simple, traditional chapel ceremony at one of the churches on the island.
The white stucco with bright blue trim was quintessentially Greece. And their wedding planner paired it with beautiful white flowers and greenery accents.
Just like with the rest of their wedding celebration, the couple and their wedding planner looked to the Greek island for their inspiration for the reception.
Between the cliffside wedding reception venue that overlooked the water and the bright fuchsia flowers with rattan chandeliers hanging from the rafters, the reception details were that perfect Milos blend of luxury and laid-back charisma.
And what’s a summer, Greek island wedding in Milos if you’re not soaking up the warm air with your closest friends and family on the dance floor?
That’s exactly what this couple did to end their night, complete with fireworks as they cut into their wedding cake!
This particular wedding in Milos solidified Milos as one of the best wedding destinations in Greece in my eyes!
So if you’re looking to plan a wedding in Greece, then take this as your sign to check out this gorgeous, summer island. And if you need a destination wedding photographer to capture it for you… well, you know where to find me!
