After spending years refining my unique, editorial style for wedding photography, and building my brand, I have the amazing luxury and opportunity of working with the best people in the world.
And this 4-day Mykonos wedding celebration was no exception. This couple, Anthony and Ryan, were epic to say the least. And naturally, they chose an incredibly epic location to compliment their personalities!
Come along as I share how I captured this Mykonos destination wedding that was filled with so much energy, passion, and love:
One of the greatest parts about being a destination wedding photographer that has spent years working with my favorite kind of people is seeing how my couples reimagine what a wedding can look like.
For Anthony and Ryan, that included jet setting off to Mykonos, Greece with their friends and family. But instead of only celebrating their wedding for a single day, they created an indulgent, extraordinary fete that lasted 4 whole days.
Once they knew they were jetting off to Greece, they wanted to create an entire experience for themselves and their guests. And that they did! They welcomed all of their loved ones on Thursday. They hosted the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner on Friday. The ceremony and reception was on Saturday. Then they had a relaxing beach day all day on Sunday.
It was a fashionable, sleek affair that I knew was going to create the most amazing wedding gallery.
Anthony and Ryan hosted their welcome party at Villa Maera Maximus. The pair designated the night as casual chic with party pants, and everyone brought their fashionable best.
The location was a great taste of what drives so many people to visit Mykonos! With an infinity pool overlooking the coastline of Greece, a stone-built villa on a cliffside, and an outdoor patio to enjoy the warm weather, we couldn’t have asked for a better spot.
A local DJ brought the entertainment, while everyone danced outside, laughed, and bonded over their love and excitement for the couple.
The evening of the second day everyone was in town for the wedding, the couple hosted the rehearsal dinner at Kalesma Mykonos Hotel.
It was a more formal affair, as the pair required everyone to dress in cocktail attire, including sport coats and cocktail dresses.
And they created the most chic and elegant venue design and decor to welcome the elevated fashion.
Large pink floral arrangements wrapped around columns inside the pergola, which were inspired by the native flora of Greece.
On each table, small vases of rich pink flowers, like peonies, served as the centerpieces. The smaller sizes of the decor pieces allowed the gorgeous views of the sea to take center stage.
The couple showed up in complementary suits, while neither of them competed with other. One showed up in an all white suit while the other groom wore a light camel color. As they arrived at Kalesma, they looked as though they had stepped off of the Spring/Summer runway.
One of the best parts about planning a multi-day celebration is the opportunity to have more photos of you and your partner from your destination wedding photographer! The stunning Anguilla wedding and the vintage-chic inspired wedding in Liguria are both prime examples of that.
And now, we can add this magnificent Greece destination wedding to the list, too!
The three of us took a stroll through the nature paths just outside of Kalesma Mykonos Hotel. We captured some beautiful portraits with the colors of dusk illuminating the sky. And the crisp lines of the more modern architecture at the hotel complemented the couple’s sleek style.
The couple chose a spectacular venue for their wedding ceremony and reception. With a restaurant built inside a cave and the entire architecture nestled on a natural, rocky platform directly next to the sea.
From start to finish, the wedding day was such a romantic and intimate affair – from the grooms getting ready together until they celebrated the night away at their reception.
In keeping with their desire to reimagine what a wedding looks like so it fits their personalities, the pair chose to get ready together at their hotel.
It gave them the morning to spend more time with one another on a day that usually goes by so fast that it feels like the couple typically barely gets to see each other.
Just as they had done all weekend, the couple looked as though they had just flown in from Paris Fashion Week. They each wore Ralph Lauren suits that created such an elevated, sharp aesthetic in both their portraits and in setting the tone of their day.
Rather than choosing matching colors, they each chose a shade that fit the color story for the entire day – one in sage and one in olive.
I love when my couples put their trust in me to capture, not only the special moments of the wedding day, but their personalities, as well.
These two were such a sharp, trendy, chic couple. So, naturally, we needed to have wedding party portraits inspired by fashion editorials. With their complementary outfits in a color palette that embraced the natural shades of Mykonos, they looked perfect on the steps of the ridiculously epic Villa Maera Maximus!
The two grooms were inspired by the destination for their wedding day design and decor. With a ceremony site overlooking the crystal blue waters on the rooftop of the Spilia Restaurant, a simplistic arch adorned with pampas and palms served as the altar.
They continued their soft, neutral color palette of olive and sage with neutral and pops of white.
The inspiration continued throughout the wedding reception design and decor inside the cave at the Spilia Restaurant. Rattan lighting fixtures of different sizes and shapes hung over the banquet-style tables. Similar style charger plates with simple, understated floral arrangements created a chic table design.
With a destination wedding right on the water, and a design aesthetic reminiscent of the coastline, it only made sense to have a couple’s “just married” portrait session on the water!
The pair took a traditional Riva boat, and I joined them for romantic photos as a newly married couple.
After the couple’s portraits, we headed back to the Spilia Restaurant to re-join the couple’s friends and family for a night of dancing. Between dancing on table tops and stopping to catch the fireworks display, the night was so energetic and lively!
If you’re having a destination wedding on the beach, then you simply have to make time for you and your guests to relax by the waves.
That’s exactly what this amazing couple did! On Sunday, before everyone headed their separate ways, the couple hosted an all-day-long beach party at Alemagou, a local beach bar and restaurant.
And just like every other occasion of the weekend, the couple created an aesthetic for the party. They embraced the boho beach chic and encouraged everyone to just “be a vibe.” That they were! It was absolutely fabulous to capture it all for their wedding gallery.
It re-inspires me again and again when I get to work with clients who choose epic destinations for their weddings. And even more so when they throw out all of the rules of a “traditional” wedding and choose to do things in ways that express their personalities!
This wedding in Mykonos was truly special. And I’m so grateful to have been there to capture it all!
