Maria and Mattia wed under the Spanish sun, surrounded by loved ones and the gorgeous Meditteranean climate Ibiza is so well known for. Hailing from Italy, Maria and Mattia chose sunny Spain for their wedding and decor that matched the wedding’s location while paying homage to Ibiza’s natural beauty and heritage.
With 300 guests invited, the focus of the wedding event was about creating an intimate experience where guests could really feel connected to the couple and truly share their special joy. Maria and Mattia focused on having guests feel as though they were a part of it all, not just viewers. This was done by really immersing them in the experience and making the setting as cozy and comfortable as possible.
The fun started even before the wedding officially began. Maria and Mattia held a pre-wedding party at Maria’s family home. A stunning property nestled amongst the hills and cliffs overlooking the Punta Galera, it really set the tone for a beautiful ceremony to come.

The couple chose a gorgeous historical church, Iglesia Es Cubells, for their nuptials. Built in 1959, it matches the exterior of the other white churches that dot the city and represents the classic Ibiza style church. And it fit perfectly with the quiet and intimate setting the couple opted for. The white exterior of the church looked stunning against the clear blue sky, and really helped set the mood. As guests entered, they were greeted with wooden pews adorned with beautiful flowers as they found their seats.
One of the things that makes Maria and Mattia’s wedding so unique is their attention to detail, especially in the decor. Like the strands of twine to tie the bouquets, the couple also used varying sizes of decor pieces such as baskets to have some depth and dimension.
Alongside this, they also used customized signs to indicate parking for guests, and signage to help guide them in the venue. It’s clear that a lot of thought went into each part of the guest’s experience, and everything was designed to make it easy, convenient, and most of all, enjoyable.
The baskets used throughout the venue, such as in the various areas throughout the venue also deserve a special mention. Each basket was a different size, with varying amounts of core elements including lemons, olive, Limonium, sunflowers, and aster.
By mixing it up and choosing different amounts for each basket, each basked was unique making it so much more special. And their use of greenery and flowers were all inspired by the landscape and atmosphere around them, making it incredibly thoughtful and special. The mixture of flowers and foliage brought a lot of depth and dimension to the decor and highlights how simple touches throughout the event can have a big impact on the overall look and feel of the wedding event.
Working together with talented wedding planners, The Shop, Maria and Mattia chose a rustic-chic theme that honored their surroundings while still staying true to themselves. Their wedding was about rustic elegance, blending countryside and modern to create a cozy and comfortable wedding. Flowers were in abundance alongside herbs and plants, and even some lemons as a nod to the location! The green hues of the plants complemented by the lush yellows of the lemon made for gorgeous decor that really honored their location and surrounding.
The flowers were done by Aurea Floral Studio, the focus was again on grounded countryside florals. The aisles were filled with sunflowers and olive branches, tied off with twine for an earthier touch. It’s a beautiful way to showcase some not-so-traditional wedding flowers like sunflowers, and really give them a great spotlight. The touch of twine helped give the rustic-chic effect. It was reflective of the natural beauty surrounding the happy couple and their guests.
Other decor pieces, such as the welcome arch, were topped with macrame and foliage to really bring together these different elements. And to top it all of, no detail was left untouched – even the pool was filled with dozens of sunflower heads for a stunning decorative touch.
Held at Villa Can Nefra, a luxury villa in Ibiza, this quiet and serene olive farm was the perfect location. With its private gardens homey structures, it added to the rustic-chic look of the wedding.
The decorative elements at the reception itself were a mixture of things with a touch of innovation. It matched the theme, with olive garlands on each of the 35 tables paired with foliage and lemons to help draw the look together.
But there were other elements included too, such as pillar candles nestled in glass cylinders. These were placed on tables to create a more intimate and close atmosphere at guests dined amongst the glow of the candlelight. The tables though stole the show. Opting for a long table set up, two long runs of tables were placed end to end, spanning over 125 feet. Having this design created a dramatic look while helping guests feel closer and connected to each other as they enjoyed the festivities.
As with the chillout area, the tables and chairs were also wooden to match the rest of the theme. Coupled with the hay bales and blankets, the decor for the reception was a beautiful mixture of rural and modern to create a special experience for everyone. Guests enjoyed the beautiful sunset.
Prior to the reception dinner, there were chillout areas for cocktail hour. These areas were designed for guests to get comfortable and relax. With folksy throw cushions, comfy sofas, and lots of wooden furniture, it was all about making sure everyone was comfortable while still having an elegant look overall. To further solidify the rustic-chic aesthetic, they opted for high wooden tables and matching stools to make it a bit less formal and truly relaxing.
But most stunning of all were the chillout tents that dotted the reception venue to create a truly magical look. Each tent was supported by bamboo poles with delicate white fabric covering it and adorned with fairy lights. The effect was stunning and it really allowed guests to get lost in the experience and feel like they had stepped into a Mediterranean fairytale.
In their photos, you can see how joyful and excited they are to get married and how comfortable they feel with another. The same elements that made their love so strong are also reflected in the decor and theme of the wedding. It was about creating an event that was simple yet elegant, close, and intimate. The decor and the furniture were all chosen to complement their location and venue, to bring it all together and really ensure that guests felt like they were sharing the moment – not just watching from afar. Maria and Mattia’s Ibiza wedding was truly a beautiful event, filled with love and laughter.
