It’s one of the most thought-of destinations for any type of event. Whether you’re traveling, or you’re planning a destination wedding, the Amalfi Coast almost always tops the list.
With a coastline that rises into towering mountains, it’s a location that creates incredible backdrops for any photograph. When you add the rich history and vibrant culture of the towns scattered throughout the coast, it becomes the picturesque setting of Italy’s la bella vita.
This Ravello, Italy wedding embraced the location and its inspiring elements. And I was there to capture it all:
Nestled above the city of Amalfi is Ravello. It’s a beautiful mountain town that overlooks the coastline and creates a romantic atmosphere for any wedding.
Right in the heart of the city of Ravello sits a historic church that gives passers-by a glimpse of the rich history of Italy. For this wedding, Duomo di Ravello was the perfect venue for the ceremony, as it added a touch of tradition to this couple’s celebration.
With arched ceilings and ornate frescoes everywhere, the Ravello wedding venue created a beautiful complement to the bride’s fairytale-like wedding gown.
After the wedding ceremony at Duomo di Ravello, the couple and guests made their way to the crown jewel of Ravello – the Belmond Hotel Caruso.
This wedding venue is a remodeled 11th-century palace, where tradition meets the modern la bella vita. It made an exquisite addition to such a romantic celebration!
The bride and groom made sure to create an unforgettable, Italian experience for their friends and family. Everyone savored aperitivos and fine dining underneath vaulted ceilings and original frescoes during this Ravello wedding reception.
The details of any wedding photography gallery always set the mood and the aesthetic first. They act as beautiful descriptions in classic fairytales.
And these details were exactly that! From the color palette to the bride’s dress, everything was reminiscent of a dreamy fairytale.
The Amalfi Coast has inspired color palettes for generations. From the crystalline waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the muted neutrals of the sandy shores, and the vibrant colors of the architecture built into the mountainsides, the region is rich in inspiring colors.
The couple decided to embrace the location instead of trying to overrule it. So they created a color palette that was reminiscent of the dreamy Amalfi shades. They chose light baby blue, yellow, and blush pink for their Ravello, Italy wedding. And to make it pop, they added in whites for significant details like the bride’s bouquet.
In keeping with the theme of using the location as the inspiration, the couple opted for a bespoke stationery suite. The place cards, table name cards, and guest book were all created using handwritten calligraphy on Amalfi paper.
It was such an incredible way to pay homage to their Ravello wedding, down to the last detail.
With the fairytale-like Ravello wedding venues having such lavish history, the bride wanted a gown to give them justice.
And that it did! The Eve of Milady wedding dress gave such an ethereal feel to the celebration. With a lightly hand-beaded neckline and layer upon layer underneath the A-line silhouette, it was as though it had been inspired directly by the venues!
You may have seen from some of my other sessions that I encourage brides and grooms to embrace whatever Mother Nature sends us!
For this Ravello, Italy wedding, we had to take my sage advice once again. The weather gave us everything – from sun, rain, and wind to a gorgeous rainbow at the very end!
I know it’s often a couple’s worst dream come to life when it rains on their wedding day. But rain and even wind can make for incredible conditions! Rainy photographs are some of the most romantic, cinematic creations, after all.
And less than ideal weather conditions often causes people to head indoors. That’s what happened on this wedding day, which meant we had the ancient cobblestone streets to ourselves. It was such a charming way to embrace all parts of la bella vita!
I am always so grateful when couples choose an Italian city as their destination wedding location. Not only do I get to capture their day as it unfolds, but I also get to share my home and watch as they explore something so special to me!
